IPMAT Cut-Offs 2027: what is official, and what isn't

No IIM publishes an IPMAT cut-off before the exam. IIM Indore says so in writing: section cut-offs are "decided by the Admissions Committee" after the results. What the institutes do publish is how your score is weighted — and that is the part you can actually plan around.

The short answer

There is no published IPMAT cut-off for 2027, and there will not be one before the exam. This is not an oversight — it is how the institutes have chosen to run admissions.

IIM Indore's own admission procedure states it plainly:

"The minimum cut-off mark in each section will be decided by the Admissions Committee. The minimum cut off mark in each section will be based on the categories of applicants."

IIM Bodh Gaya is equally direct about its raw-score minimums — they are "decided after the result based on the available pool of the candidates."

In other words, the number is set after everyone has taken the exam, once the institute can see how the whole applicant pool performed. A hard cut-off cannot exist in advance because it depends on a paper nobody has sat yet.

Any figure you see today labelled "IPMAT cut-off 2027" is a prediction, not a published fact. It may be a reasonable guess. It is still a guess, and it is not what you are being marked against.

Two institutes do publish something firm in advance — minimum sectional percentiles for JIPMAT. Those are covered below. But read them carefully: they are qualifying floors, not the level at which people actually get admitted.

What is published: how your score is weighted

This is the useful part, and it is public. Each institute states exactly how it builds its final merit list. The four differ more than most candidates realise.

Read that table again before you plan anything. Your board marks are worth 30% of the final decision at IIM Rohtak and 30% at IIM Jammu — and nothing at all at IIM Indore or IIM Bodh Gaya. The interview is worth more than a third at Indore and nothing at either JIPMAT institute.

These are the weightages published for the 2026 admission cycle, the most recent ones available. The 2027 policies are usually released alongside the exam notifications. They change rarely, but check the official documents when they appear — every link is at the bottom of this page.

IPMAT Indore

Three sections, 40 minutes each: Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (Short Answer), and Verbal Ability. Every question carries 4 marks, with 1 mark deducted for a wrong answer — except in the short-answer section, which has no negative marking.

Your Aptitude Test Score is not the raw total. The three sections are normalised and then weighted:

SectionWeight in Aptitude Test Score
Quantitative Ability (MCQ)25
Quantitative Ability (Short Answer)25
Verbal Ability50

Shortlisting for the interview runs off that Aptitude Test Score, category by category. The final Composite Score is then 65% aptitude test and 35% personal interview.

Verbal is half your test score

Not a third — half. A candidate who treats verbal as the section to survive has already given away 50% of the weight before the paper starts.

Never leave a short answer blank

That section carries no negative marking. An attempted guess costs nothing and may earn 4 marks. Leaving it empty is a guaranteed zero.

The interview is 35%

More than a third of the final decision happens after the written exam. Interview preparation is not something to begin the week the shortlist appears.

IIM Indore's admission document does not state the number of questions per section. Question counts quoted elsewhere come from candidate recollections of past papers, not from the institute.

IPMAT Rohtak

A single 120-minute paper: Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability, 40 questions each, 120 in total, all multiple choice, 4 marks for a correct answer and 1 mark off for a wrong one. Candidates applying for the law-integrated programme also take an optional Legal Reasoning section of 20 questions in 20 minutes.

The final merit list is built like this:

ComponentWeight
Aptitude Test Score55%
Personal Interview15%
Class XII marks20%
Class X marks10%
Thirty per cent of your Rohtak result is already decided by your board marks. If you are in Class 12 now, your board exams are part of this entrance, not a distraction from it. If your Class X marks are behind you and not what you hoped, you know exactly how much ground the test has to make up.

Eligibility is a minimum of 60% in both Class X and Class XII (55% for SC, ST and DAP candidates), calculated on the aggregate of any best five subjects, and a maximum age of 20 years — 25 for SC and ST candidates.

JIPMAT: one exam, two very different rules

JIPMAT is conducted by the National Testing Agency for IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu. Same paper, same score — and then the two institutes do almost opposite things with it.

IIM Jammu

Merit is 70% JIPMAT percentile, 15% Class X and 15% Class XII. There is no interview. IIM Jammu also publishes minimum sectional percentiles in advance — the clearest official numbers anywhere in IPMAT admissions:

CategoryMinimum percentile in each section
General50
EWS / NC-OBC35
SC30
ST / PwD25

IIM Bodh Gaya

Merit is built from JIPMAT marks alone — board marks carry no weight and there is no interview. Candidates need at least the category-wise sectional percentile of 30 to be eligible for the merit list, and raw sectional minimums are set after the results.

Ties are broken in a published order: overall JIPMAT score first, then VARC, then Quantitative Aptitude, then DILR, then Class X, then Class XII, then how recently you appeared for Class XII and Class X, and finally date of birth, with the younger candidate ranked higher.

Do not read a percentile floor as a target. Clearing the 50th percentile makes a General-category candidate eligible for IIM Jammu's merit list. It does not come close to earning a seat — the merit list is then ranked, and seats run out far above the floor.

So what is that cut-off number you saw online?

Usually one of two things, and it is worth knowing which you are looking at.

A past-year estimate

Scores candidates reported after getting a call in an earlier year, collected and averaged. Informative about the past. Not a rule, and not published by any institute.

A prediction

Someone's forecast for the coming year, often published before the paper exists. Reasonable people can forecast reasonably. It is still a forecast.

Either way, the number moves every year, because it is an outcome rather than a standard. It shifts with how hard the paper was, how many people applied, and how that year's pool performed. A cut-off that held last year tells you very little about the one that will be set this year.

We do not publish predicted cut-offs on this site. We would be making them up, and a number invented by us could change how you prepare.

What to do with all this

Everything below follows directly from the published weightages above. No guesswork involved.

Aim high, not at a number

Since the bar is set after the exam, the only sound strategy is to maximise your score rather than to clear an imagined line. Preparing to just scrape a predicted cut-off leaves you with no margin when the paper is harder than expected.

Give verbal its real weight

At IIM Indore, verbal is 50% of the aptitude score. If your study hours do not reflect that, they are mis-allocated.

Take your boards seriously

They are 30% of the decision at IIM Rohtak and IIM Jammu. For those two, board preparation and entrance preparation are the same project.

Start interview prep early

The interview is 35% at IIM Indore and 15% at IIM Rohtak. Starting after the shortlist is published leaves a few weeks for a third of the marks.

Pick targets deliberately

Weak boards but a strong test? IIM Indore and IIM Bodh Gaya ignore board marks entirely. Strong boards? Rohtak and Jammu reward them. Your profile should shape your list.

Frequently asked questions

What is the expected IPMAT 2027 cut-off?
Nobody can answer this honestly, including us. The institutes set section cut-offs after the results, based on how that year's candidates actually performed. Any number quoted now is a forecast, not a published figure.
Is there any official cut-off published in advance at all?
Yes, but only minimum sectional percentiles for JIPMAT: IIM Jammu publishes 50 for General, 35 for EWS and NC-OBC, 30 for SC and 25 for ST and PwD, and IIM Bodh Gaya requires a category-wise sectional percentile of 30. These are qualifying floors for the merit list, not the level at which candidates are admitted.
Do my board marks affect my IPMAT admission?
It depends entirely on the institute. They are 30% of the final score at IIM Rohtak (Class XII 20%, Class X 10%) and 30% at IIM Jammu (15% each). They carry no weight at all in the merit lists of IIM Indore or IIM Bodh Gaya, though all four require minimum percentages to be eligible.
Does a percentile cut-off mean the same as a marks cut-off?
No. A percentile tells you how you did relative to everyone else who took the paper, so the marks behind a given percentile change every year with the difficulty of the exam. The JIPMAT minimums are percentiles; IIM Indore's section cut-offs are marks.
Is the cut-off different for each category?
Yes. Every institute here sets category-wise minimums, and shortlisting at IIM Indore runs category by category.
If I clear the sectional minimum, am I admitted?
No. Clearing a minimum makes you eligible to be ranked. Candidates are then admitted in order of merit until the seats are filled, which happens well above the minimum.
