IPMAT Exam Pattern 2027: Indore vs Rohtak vs JIPMAT

IPMAT Indore pattern

IIM Indore's test has three sections of 40 minutes each, taken in a fixed order that every candidate follows. You cannot move time from one section to another.

Question counts are not fixed. IIM Indore does not announce how many questions each section has. In the 2026 paper, candidates reported 15 short-answer, 30 multiple-choice quant and 45 verbal questions (90 in all). Earlier years were different, so prepare for the format rather than a number.

From score to selection

Section scores are normalised against the eligible pool and combined with the weights above into an Aptitude Test Score. Shortlisting for the interview is category-wise, and the admissions committee sets a minimum mark for each section. The final selection is aptitude test 65% + personal interview 35%.

What it means for you

Verbal is worth as much as both quant sections together. And because the short-answer section has no negative marking, a reasoned answer to every question there costs you nothing.

IIM Rohtak states a single 120-minute limit and no sectional time limits. Candidates applying to IIM Rohtak's law programme (IPL) take an extra Legal Reasoning section: 20 questions in 20 minutes, +4 / −1.

From score to selection

Shortlisting uses the minimum eligibility criteria and the IPMAT score. The final selection is IPMAT 55% + interview 15% + Class 10 marks 10% + Class 12 marks 20%.

What it means for you

About one minute per question rewards speed and smart skipping. And with board marks at 30% of the result, your Class 12 exams are part of your Rohtak preparation.

JIPMAT is conducted by the National Testing Agency for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya. It is a computer-based test in English only.

From score to selection (IIM Jammu, 2026)

JIPMAT percentile 70% + Class 10 marks 15% + Class 12 marks 15%, with minimum sectional percentiles: 50 (General), 35 (EWS and OBC), 30 (SC), 25 (ST and PwD). IIM Jammu's 2026 policy lists no interview. IIM Bodh Gaya publishes its own policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is the IPMAT 2027 pattern the same as 2026?

Nobody knows yet: the 2027 notices have not been released (as of 19 Sep 2026). The broad structure has been stable in recent years, but IPMAT Indore's question counts have changed from year to year.

Does IPMAT Indore have sectional time limits?

Yes. Each of the three sections has 40 minutes, and all candidates take the sections in the same fixed order. IIM Indore does not disclose the order in advance.

Does IPMAT Rohtak have sectional cut-offs or time limits?

IIM Rohtak's 2026 notice states a total time of 120 minutes and does not mention sectional time limits or sectional cut-offs.

Is there negative marking in the short-answer section?

No. In IPMAT Indore's short-answer quant section, a wrong answer costs nothing. Multiple-choice questions in all three exams carry −1 for a wrong answer.

Which section matters most for IIM Indore?

Verbal. It carries 50% of the aptitude score; the two quant sections carry 25% each.
