IPMAT Eligibility 2027: the rules that quietly rule people out

Most students check the minimum percentage and stop there. The rules that actually disqualify people are the finer ones: a date-of-birth cut-off, a percentage calculated on all your subjects rather than your best five, a Class 10 year limit, and one IIM that requires Maths.

Eligibility side by side (2026 rules)

The 2027 notices are not out yet (as of 24 Sep 2026). These are the rules each institute published for the 2026 cycle, the most recent available.

JIPMAT's own rules are only the entry ticket to the test. NTA's bulletin says IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu "may have different eligibility requirements". Meeting NTA's rules doesn't mean you meet the institutes' rules.

Age: the rule that catches gap-year students

Two of the three exams have an age rule, and they are written differently.

IIM Indore: a birth date

For the 2026 batch you had to be born on or after 1 August 2006, or 1 August 2001 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. It is a fixed date, so check it against your birth certificate rather than working it out from your age.

IIM Rohtak: an age on a date

Maximum 20 years as of 30 June 2026, or 25 for SC and ST candidates. Students who took a gap year or started school late should check this first.

JIPMAT: no age limit

NTA sets none, and IIM Jammu's 2026 policy states none. The limit that applies instead is the year you passed Class 10: 2022 or later.

Board marks: it's how your percentage is calculated that matters

IIM Indore sets no minimum percentage. IIM Rohtak and IIM Jammu both require 60% in Class 10 and Class 12 (55% for SC, ST and candidates with disabilities). What most students miss is which marks are counted.

InstituteHow your percentage is calculated (2026)
IIM IndoreAggregate of all subjects on the marksheet, "irrespective of the Board's regulation"
IIM RohtakAggregate of any best five subjects on the marksheet, "irrespective of the Board's regulation"

An example

Take a student with six subjects scoring 95, 92, 90, 88, 85 and 60. Counting all six gives 85.0%. Counting the best five gives 90.0%. It's the same marksheet, but the number is five points different.

Why it matters at Rohtak

At IIM Rohtak your board marks are not just an eligibility bar: Class 12 is 20% and Class 10 is 10% of the final score. The best-five rule works in your favour there.

"Irrespective of the Board's regulation"

If your board prints a best-five percentage on the marksheet, IIM Indore still counts every subject. Don't copy the percentage printed on your marksheet without checking how it was calculated.

Year of passing, and applying before your results

A three-year window

IIM Indore, JIPMAT and IIM Jammu all accepted Class 12 passed in 2024 or 2025, or being taken in 2026. A student who finished school in 2023 was outside that window, whatever their age.

Class 10 year (JIPMAT and IIM Jammu)

Class 10 must have been passed in 2022 or later. This rarely matters, but it does rule out students who took an unusually long gap between Class 10 and 12.

Still in Class 12? You can apply

All three allow it. IIM Indore and IIM Jammu accept students likely to finish Class 12 by 31 July 2026. IIM Rohtak accepts those finishing by the end of June 2026 and offers provisional admission, subject to meeting the minimum marks once results are out.

IIM Indore asks for your Class 10 and 12 marksheets and a school leaving or migration certificate when you register for the programme. Keep them ready.

Stream and Maths

None of IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak or IIM Jammu lists a stream or a Maths requirement in its 2026 rules, and JIPMAT accepts arts, commerce and science. Commerce and humanities students can apply to all of them.

The exception is IIM Shillong, which admits through the IPMAT Indore score. Its 2026 policy required Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Class 11 and 12, and 70% in Class 10 and 12 (65% for SC, ST and DA). If Shillong is on your list and you dropped Maths, you are not eligible there.

International boards: IIM Indore accepts IGCSE and IB (IBDP and IBCP only), and asks IB students for the IB Indian Percentage Transcript. IIM Jammu also accepts IGCSE and IB.

What changes for 2027

The 2027 notices are not out yet. The pattern so far is clear, though: between the 2025 and 2026 cycles, IIM Indore moved both of its dates forward by exactly one year.

The last column is our projection, not an official rule. If you are close to either date, wait for the IIM Indore notice before deciding.

Check yourself in two minutes

1. Your birth date

Against IIM Indore's cut-off date and IIM Rohtak's age-on-30-June rule.

2. Two percentages

Work out your percentage across all subjects and across your best five, for both Class 10 and Class 12.

3. Your Class 12 year

Is it inside the three-year window? Is your Class 10 from 2022 or later (for JIPMAT)?

4. Maths

Only matters if IIM Shillong is on your list, but there it rules you out completely.

5. Category documents

If you apply under a reserved category, check that your certificate meets the format and date the notice asks for.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum percentage for IPMAT Indore?
IIM Indore's 2026 admission procedure states no minimum percentage for Class 10 or 12. IIM Rohtak and IIM Jammu both require 60% (55% for reserved categories), and IIM Shillong requires 70% (65%).
Can commerce or humanities students apply?
Yes. None of IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak or IIM Jammu lists a stream requirement, and JIPMAT accepts arts, commerce and science. IIM Shillong is the exception: it requires Maths or Applied Maths in Class 11 and 12.
I'm in Class 12 now. Can I apply for IPMAT 2027?
Yes. In 2026, IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, IIM Jammu and JIPMAT all accepted students who were still taking Class 12, subject to finishing by the stated date and meeting any minimum marks once results were out.
I passed Class 12 in 2024. Can I still apply in 2027?
Probably not for IIM Indore. If the 2027 rules follow the one-year shift seen between 2025 and 2026, its window would be 2025, 2026 or appearing in 2027. Check the 2027 notice, and check IIM Rohtak's age rule too.
My board gives a best-five percentage. Which one do I use?
It depends on the institute. IIM Rohtak uses your best five subjects. IIM Indore uses all subjects on the marksheet, "irrespective of the Board's regulation", so calculate both.
Is there an age limit for JIPMAT?
NTA sets none, and IIM Jammu's 2026 policy states none. Class 10 must have been passed in 2022 or later, and Class 12 in 2024 or 2025 or taken in 2026.
